This morning's scripture read, "Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up." ~ Proverbs 12:25 - NIV. Something about it really touched my heart. My first thought was we needed to look to God's word for cheer and as the day went on, I returned to the verse and listened to what He might be telling me. This is what I heard...
God's Word tells us to cast all are cares on Him and not be anxious. We can always count on God's Word to uplift, encourage and bring us inner peace... BUT we are all guilty of worry and anxiety. It can weigh on our hearts and make our minds race and dream of the worst. Worry can weaken our ability to think clearly and can overtake us to the point we lose our patience and overlook God and His Word. As children of God we need to keep that in mind every day and be God's voice. Think of how important it is that our kind words be spoken in the context of a person's "anxious heart". If you walk into a dark room and turn the light on, the darkness flees. In the same way a kind word acts as a light to an anxious heart. Remember to take time each day to show kindness to those around you. When you see a stranger smile, say hello, offer a kind gesture. Never forget to take a minute of your daily routine to include those you love. When you care for someone, consider what kind gesture will ease their concerns and anxieties. You know how you feel but unless the words are spoken no one else does. Unspoken words can lead to doubt so take the time to spread a little kindness. It can be as simple as a note, an email, a text message, a good "old fashioned" phone call...however you do it, don't forget to say, "I'm thinking of you.", "I miss you.", "I love you.", "You're awesome."... Thoughtful actions and complimentary words are empowering and have the strength to change the momentum of someone's day!
Heart & Soul,
